Defined by...

Colossians 3:23-25 (NLV)
23 Whatever work you do, do it with all your heart. Do it for the Lord and not for men. 24 Remember that you will get your reward from the Lord. He will give you what you should receive. You are working for the Lord Christ. 25 If anyone does wrong, he will suffer for it. God does not respect one person more than another.

Matthew 6: 21, 24 (NLV)
21For wherever your riches are, your heart will be there also. 24 No one can have two bosses. He will hate the one and love the other. Or he will listen to the one and work against the other. You cannot have both God and riches as your boss at the same time.

In small group this week, we read a chapter of a book titled “Identity” by Matt Brown.  He started this chapter off with a question I ask frequently to the students in my class, “What do you want to BE when you grow up?”  NOT,  “What do you want to DO when you grow up?”  See the 1 word that has changed.  We can claim a profession and DO that profession to the best of our ability.  However, does it become what we want to “BE” as a person.  God intended us to do more than go to work and come home.  He created us to go to work, reflect His love on others, and do HIS work.  We get so wrapped up in what needs to be done at work.  In fact, we tend to let our identity get wrapped up in the title of our job.  In turn, we define ourselves by our success.  We can easily begin to have a change of heart and focus on our success and career that we forget the main purpose of our day, to be HIS disciple.  As Matthew 6:21 states, if you see great value in your material things (or job), that is where your heart lies.  If you see great value in a relationship with God and His love, that is where our heart will lie.

God is our one and only “boss”.  You can’t serve 2 “bosses” and have a full heart.  So take a moment today, when the stress level is at its greatest, and know that God is in control.  He will help guide you and your words, IF YOU LET HIM.  So my prayer for you today is that you focus on the moments you are in and to be who HE designed you TO BE in those moments.   God wants us to leave a legacy that points only to HIM.

Be Blessed!
